If the same patient has been referred more than once, you can merge the duplicate referral into the primary one. Merging consolidates the records and marks the secondary referral as Merged so it no longer appears in the active queue.Documentation Index

When to merge
Merge referrals when:- The same patient was referred by two different sources in a short window.
- A fax referral and an electronic referral arrived for the same patient.
- A referral was resubmitted after an error, creating a duplicate.
Finding merge candidates
The system automatically identifies potential duplicate referrals based on patient name, date of birth, and referral date. Candidates are surfaced in the referral detail view.Find merge candidates
In the actions menu or detail view, select View merge candidates. The system lists referrals that may be duplicates.
Review candidates
Compare the candidate referrals to confirm they are for the same patient. Review patient name, date of birth, and referral source.
After merging
- The merged (secondary) referral status changes to Merged.
- It no longer appears in the default referral queue.
- The primary referral retains all its data. Data from the secondary referral is not automatically copied over — review the primary record to ensure it is complete.
